Open shelving that actually holds books
Books are heavier than people expect — a metre of paperbacks is roughly 25kg. Flat-pack shelving sags under that within a year. A steel-framed unit with timber shelves carries it without bowing, and the open industrial look suits both a lounge and an office.
What you can choose

Typical sizes
- 1.8m or 2.1m high is standard
- 800mm–1200mm wide per bay
- 300–400mm deep for books, deeper for display pieces

How we build your bookshelf

Send us the space
WhatsApp a photo of where it’s going, plus rough measurements. A sketch on paper is perfectly fine.

We quote and confirm
Tell us what’s going on it. Books need close shelf spacing and stiffer timber; display pieces and plants can have deeper, wider gaps. You get a price and a timeline before anything is cut.

We build it
Shelves sit in welded steel cradles rather than on pegs, so nothing can slip. Uprights drilled for wall anchors as standard.

Delivery and install
We deliver across Gauteng and install on site where the piece needs it.

Questions we get asked
How much weight will a shelf hold?
At 900mm wide with a 32mm timber shelf, comfortably a full run of hardcover books. If you want longer spans we either thicken the timber or add a centre support — we’ll tell you which when we quote.
Can it work as a room divider?
Yes. We build those open on both sides with a heavier base frame, and we’d normally anchor the top to a ceiling or wall for stability.
